HGV breakdown checklist: the first 15 minutes
A calm, repeatable sequence for protecting people, locating the vehicle precisely and giving a mechanic or recovery operator exactly what they need to help.
UK HGV repair & recovery directory · searchable 24/7
Find commercial-vehicle workshops, heavy recovery operators, mobile mechanics and tyre fitters near the breakdown. Compare published capability, then call the provider directly. No consumer fee, no commission, no call centre.

27 capabilities · 83 UK hubs
Built for articulated, rigid, trailer, van, coach and specialist fleets.
01 / How it works
Three steps, no account, no phone tree. The whole flow is designed to be finished one-handed on a mobile at the roadside.
Start an emergency requestA full postcode, a town, a motorway junction or your live GPS position. Add the vehicle type and the symptoms if you know them.
See published capabilities, mobile coverage radius, 24-hour contact and verification state. We never pad results with unverified businesses.
Ring the provider directly or send a single incident brief. The provider confirms availability, ETA and price with you, not with us.
02 / Capabilities
A tyre blowout, an AdBlue derate and a loaded heavy recovery need different kit and different people. Search by the job, then confirm the detail with the provider.
Mobile commercial-vehicle technicians for no-starts, air leaks, electrical faults and safe temporary repairs at the vehicle.
Rigid, artic and trailer recovery matched to weight, load and access.
Mobile fitting, blowouts and replacements with the right casing.
Warning lights, derates, NOx sensors, AdBlue and DPF faults diagnosed before parts are thrown at them.
03 / Nationwide discovery
Every result is filtered by the provider's own published coverage radius around the incident, so a Felixstowe recovery operator does not appear for a breakdown on the M74.

Stranded now?
Location, vehicle, symptoms and a phone number. That is all a good mechanic needs to decide whether they can help and what to bring.
04 / For workshops & mobile operators
Publish accurate coverage, services and hours. Switch availability off when the van is out and on when it is back. Every enquiry comes straight to you with the incident detail attached.
05 / Guides
A calm, repeatable sequence for protecting people, locating the vehicle precisely and giving a mechanic or recovery operator exactly what they need to help.
The Highway Code rules that apply, the Go Left procedure, what changes on a smart motorway, and how to give a recovery operator a location they can actually use.
The four routes to help when a lorry stops, the numbers worth saving before you need them, and what a roadside call realistically costs in 2026.
Guides are written by the HGV247 editorial team and checked against current GOV.UK, DVSA and National Highways guidance. See our editorial policy.

Visit the help centreHGV247 is a UK discovery and enquiry platform for independent HGV workshops, mobile mechanics and specialist commercial-vehicle providers. HGV247 does not itself repair or recover vehicles.
Yes. Searching and sending a standard request does not require a consumer subscription. A provider charges separately for any attendance or work you agree.
No. Listed providers are independent businesses. Confirm the provider's identity, availability, ETA, terms and price before instructing them.
Give the road, direction, nearest junction or marker, a reliable map pin and the safest access point. A postcode alone is often not enough for a motorway or large logistics park.
The independent provider does. Ask for the call-out basis, travel, labour, parts, recovery mileage, VAT and cancellation terms before authorising dispatch where circumstances allow.
Every new listing gets 12 months of free access from the day it goes live, with no card needed. After that, membership is £10 per month plus any applicable VAT, shown at checkout with the billing interval and cancellation terms. Providers who do not subscribe when the free period ends stop receiving requests until they do.
No. Search visibility and enquiries depend on coverage, demand, profile quality, availability and competition. HGV247 must not promise rankings, leads or earnings.
The platform is designed for UK-wide discovery, but actual provider density and availability vary by place and time. Search results must be transparent when no suitable provider is currently listed.
