Separate the charge components
Ask whether the initial amount includes travel, a diagnostic period or only attendance. Confirm hourly labour, minimum time, mileage, out-of-hours rate and VAT.
Parts and third parties
Clarify mark-up, delivery, tyre casing or disposal, subcontract recovery and card fees before authorising additional spend.
Set authority
Give the provider a named authoriser and a spend ceiling. Require a call before work exceeds it, except immediate action needed to prevent danger.
Related questions
Who sets the call-out price?
The independent provider does. Ask for the call-out basis, travel, labour, parts, recovery mileage, VAT and cancellation terms before authorising dispatch where circumstances allow.
Can I cancel an attendance?
Tell the provider immediately. Their accepted terms determine travel or cancellation charges. Closing an HGV247 request does not automatically cancel a provider you contacted separately.
Does HGV247 guarantee an arrival time?
No. Availability and ETA are stated by the provider and can change with traffic, weather, earlier emergencies, parts and road-authority controls.
